NOTE THAT IN THIS PAPER THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE SEVEN EXPERIMENTS (at the end of section 4) EACH OF WHICH COULD BY ITSELF--DEPENDING ON THE OUTCOME--DISPROVE THE THESIS THAT THE AUTHORS ADVOCATE! This is the epitome of excellent science! But these experiments cost money and they are just not ever done.

Questioning the HIV-AIDS Hypothesis: 30 Years of Dissent, by Patricia Goodson (Note, this article was retracted for reasons the editors discuss here. These reasons essentially amount to this: Too many powerful people asserted that there is no doubt (in their view!) that HIV causes AIDS and therefore no article should be read by people that creates doubt on that topic.)
AIDS: Exponential vs. Polynomial Growth Models, written in 1988 in the early years of the AIDS epidemic before there were any effective treatments for AIDS (and there is still no vaccine for it), this paper uses data of reported AIDS cases in Canada and the USA to see if the number of AIDS cases grew exponentially or not. It finds that the data do not support the hypothesis that it was exponential growth. This means (alhough the author doesn't say it) that the data do not support the hypothesis that AIDS cases were the result of an infectious disease, since it is well known that the number of people with an infectious disease--in the absence of an effective treatment or vaccine and in the early part of an epidemic--grows exponentially.
