MIDEAST: Israel Rejected Hamas Ceasefire Offer in December
By Gareth Porter*
WASHINGTON, Jan 9 (IPS)
- Contrary to Israel's argument that it was forced to launch its air and ground
offensive against Gaza in order to stop the firing of rockets into its
territory, Hamas
proposed in mid-December to return to the original
Hamas-Israel
ceasefire arrangement, according to a U.S.-based source who has been briefed on
the proposal.
The proposal to renew the ceasefire was presented by a high-level Hamas
delegation to Egyptian Minister of Intelligence Omar Suleiman at a meeting in
Cairo Dec. 14. The delegation, said to have included Moussa Abu Marzouk, the
second-ranking official in the Hamas political bureau in Damascus, told Suleiman
that Hamas was prepared to stop all rocket attacks against Israel if the
Israelis would open up the Gaza border crossings and pledge not to launch
attacks in Gaza.
The Hamas officials insisted that Israel not be allowed to close or reduce
commercial traffic through border crossings for political purposes, as it had
done during the six-month lull, according to the source. They asked Suleiman,
who had served as mediator between Israel and Hamas in negotiating the original
six-month Gaza ceasefire last spring, to "put pressure" on Israel to take that
the ceasefire proposal seriously.
Suleiman said he could not pressure Israel but could only make the suggestion to
Israeli officials. It could not be learned, however, whether Israel explicitly
rejected the Hamas proposal or simply refused to respond to Egypt.
The readiness of Hamas to return to the ceasefire conditionally in mid-December
was confirmed by Dr. Robert Pastor, a professor at American University and
senior adviser to the Carter Centre, who met with Khaled Meshal, chairman of the
Hamas political bureau in Damascus on Dec. 14, along with former President Jimmy
Carter. Pastor told IPS that Meshal indicated Hamas was willing to go back to
the ceasefire that had been in effect up to early November "if there was a sign
that Israel would lift the siege on Gaza".
Pastor said he passed Meshal's statement on to a "senior official" in the
Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) the day after the meeting with Meshal. According to
Pastor, the Israeli official said he would get back to him, but did not.
"There was an alternative to the military approach to stopping the rockets,"
said Pastor. He added that Israel is unlikely to have an effective ceasefire in
Gaza unless it agrees to lift the siege.
The Israeli Embassy in Washington declined to comment Thursday on whether there
had been any discussion of a ceasefire proposal from Hamas in mid-December that
would have stopped the rocket firing.
Abu Omar, a spokesman for Hamas leader Khaled Meshal in Syria, told CBS news
Wednesday that Hamas could only accept the ceasefire plan now being proposed by
France and Egypt if it guarantees an end to Israel's blockade of Gaza as soon as
hostilities on both sides were halted. Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev
said Israel would only support the proposal if it also included measures to
prevent Hamas from re-arming.
The interest of Hamas in a ceasefire agreement that would actually open the
border crossings was acknowledged at a Dec. 21 Israeli cabinet meeting -- five
days before the beginning of the Israeli military offensive -- by
Yuval
Diskin,
the head of Israel's internal security agency, Shin Bet. "Make no mistake,
Hamas
is interested in maintaining the truce,"
Diskin
was quoted by Y-net News agency as saying.

HOWARD KURTZ, CNN ANCHOR, RELIABLE SOURCES:
And joining us now here … Thomas Ricks, Pentagon reporter for "The Washington
Post" and author of the new book "Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in
Iraq." Tom Ricks, you've covered a number of military conflicts, including Iraq,
as I just mentioned. Is civilian casualties increasingly going to be a major
media issue? In conflicts where you don't have two standing armies shooting at
each other?
THOMAS RICKS, REPORTER, "THE WASHINGTON POST": I think it will be. But I think
civilian casualties are also part of the battlefield play for both sides here.
One of the things that is going on,
according to some U.S. military analysts, is that Israel purposely has left
pockets of Hezbollah rockets in Lebanon, because as long as they're being
rocketed, they can continue to have a sort of moral equivalency in their
operations in Lebanon.
KURTZ: Hold on, you're suggesting that Israel has deliberately allowed Hezbollah
to retain some of it's fire power, essentially for PR purposes, because having
Israeli civilians killed helps them in the public relations war here?
RICKS: Yes, that's what military analysts have told me.
KURTZ: That's an extraordinary testament to the notion that having people on
your own side killed actually works to your benefit in that nobody wants to see
your own citizens killed but it works to your benefit in terms of the battle of
perceptions here.
RICKS: Exactly. It helps you with the moral high ground problem, because you
know your operations in Lebanon are going to be killing civilians as well.

Fake rocket attack
Typical Israeli timeline:
Peace summit arranged in Egypt between Sharon and Abbas.
On the morning of February 7, a day before the summit is to start, Israeli
Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told Israel Army Radio that he had received
intelligence warnings that some militants, including Hezbollah, may try to
disrupt the summit.
Due to the intelligence warnings, Israel Police moved to a level III heightened
alert status, one level below a state-of-emergency.
Like clockwork, on the afternoon of
February 7, rockets rained down on the northern Israeli town of
Nahariya,
and were immediately described by Israeli police as
Katyusha
rockets fired by Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.
Later in the same day, the attack was described as the result of 'human error'
involving a failed test by an Israeli weapons manufacturer in the area. It was
made clear - some might say too clear - that although the failed test took place
on an IDF firing range and was by a weapons company closely associated with the
IDF, the IDF had nothing to do with it.
Obviously, the IDF attempted to disrupt the summit, or even provide a reason to
call it off, by faking a rocket attack by Hezbollah. It wasn't a coincidence
that the Israeli Defense Minister announced the possibility of an attack in the
morning, and a faked attack occurred in the afternoon. This is the usual Israeli
terrorist bullshit. On times too numerous to mention, whenever Sharon needs
political cover to hide some outrage he is committing a convenient 'Palestinian'
attack pops up to distract the press and make the poor, poor Israelis look like
victims again. This time they were caught red handed, and had to come up with
the laughable excuse of 'human error' in rocket testing (you've got to be
kidding!). But here's the good part, and the aspect of this whole sordid matter
that inspires some optimism. They were busted, and they were busted by IDF
insiders. People in the IDF was so disgusted by the trickery that they spilled
the beans, resulting in the necessity of the ridiculous cover story to explain
the inconvenient fact that rockets
coming from an IDF
firing range were landing on an Israeli town. It wouldn't do for people to find
out that crazies in the IDF
were willing to murder Israelis in order to stop the peace process. The
good news is that there are Israelis, including Israelis in the IDF, who
wouldn't let them get away with it. If Israel is ever to have peace, we need to
see more of this whistleblowing.
1991
Here's what Zionist leaders did to "help" Russian Jews who feared anti-Semitism in the early 1990's. The Israeli reporter, Bo'az Evron, writing in the April 4, 1991 Israeli newspaper, Yediot Ahronot, actually described Israel's policy toward Soviet Jews as, in his own words, "anti-Semitic":
"The new Jewish immigrants are, in fact, refugees fleeing a country fast falling apart ... Israeli and Zionist emissaries have left no stone unturned in prodding the nations of the world to deny entry to Jewish refugees, so as to force them to settle in Israel...But this means that the nations of the world, at Israel's prodding, have consciously embarked upon a policy of discrimination against the Jewish refugees. Incontestably, it is an anti-Semitic policy which in a different context could not fail to provoke outrage. Only because the gates have been locked, and [the Soviet Jews] have nowhere else to go, can we celebrate the 'immigration miracle.'
"If they were guided by the best interests of these Jews, the [Israeli] government and the Jewish Agency would seek to open all the doors in the world to everyone wishing to leave the USSR... But who cares about the best interests of these Jews? They concern Shamir and Sharon only insofar as they can populate the settlements, or serve as a pretext for grabbing more land in the West Bank, or become soldiers in future wars ...
"Here the great secret of Zionism in the past few generations stands revealed. Long ago, Zionism ceased its concern for what is good for the Jews. Quite the contrary, Zionism is interested in seeing to it that the Jews suffer, so that they will leave their homes and come to Israel. This is why each glimmer of anti-Semitism fills the hearts of Zionists with relief. Zionism needs Jews in order to boost the Jewish population and military strength of Israel, not for their own sake ... As human beings, they are of no concern to either the State of Israel or the Zionist Movement." [14]
The "Palestinian" attack on the cruise ship Achille Lauro in 1985. That was, in fact, an Israeli "black" propaganda operation to show what a deadly, cutthroat bunch the Palestinians were.
[from Profits of War , pg. 120-22, by Ari Ben-Menashe. From 1974 to 1977 Ben-Menashe
served in the Israel Defense Forces, in signals intelligence. In the years 1977
to 1987 he was a civilian employee of the External Relations Department of IDF
Military Intelligence. From 1987 to 1989, he was a special intelligence adviser
to Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir. Ben-Menashe was one of the six members of
Israel's top-secret Joint Committee on Israel-Iran Relations, responsible for
the transfer of billions of dollars of arms to Iran during the 1980s. He
traveled the world, buying and selling arms, setting up the front companies and
conduits necessary for this massive trade, virtually all of it with the
connivance of the CIA. In 1986, in Israel, he briefed George Bush. ]
"A key player in some of these operations was the former Jordanian Army Col.
Mohammed Radi Abdullah, the man who was with Pearson and Davies when I made our
approach to Davies. Today in his early 50s, Radi was decorated by King Hussein
of Jordan for his bravery in the 1967 Middle East war. However, his family fell
out with the king because they were not willing to participate in the mass
slaughter of Palestinians by the Jordanian Army in 1970. The family emigrated to
London. The colonel married a woman related to Saddam Hussein and went about
setting up a number of companies, including shipping offices in Cyprus and
Sicily.
"Radi became known as a businessman who championed Arab and Palestinian causes
in Europe. But he missed his homeland and the days when he was lauded as a hero.
He fell to the ways of the West, started drinking heavily and spent a fotune on
gambling and women.
"In the mid-1970s, to recoup his losses, Radi went to work for Pearson, who was
supplying intelligence information to Israel. With Radi's unwitting help,
Pearson began to acquire intelligence about Palestinian organizations in Europe.
The way he did it was by selling arms to those organizations. An arms dealer
named John Knight, who ran a company called Dynavest Limited, located at 8
Waterloo Place, London SW1, and another dealer who operated out of Sidem
Internationhal Limited, Appleby House, 40 St. James' Place, St. James' Street,
London SW1, acquired arms from Yugoslavia. They would sell them to Radi, who
would in turn sell them to the Palestinian terrorist, Abu Nidal, and other
Palestinian groups. Radi was unaware of Pearson's Israeli connection, as were
the others involved.
"While it may seem curious that Pearson, a man working with Mossad, was
encouraging a Jordanian to sell weapons to Israel's enemies, it was actually all
part of a very cunning plot. In doing business with these groups, Radi learned
what they were going to use their weapons for and unsuspectingly passed the
information on to Pearson. Pearson, in turn, passed on to Mossad the
intelligence about the movements of the groups and the number of weapons they
had.
"Based on Radi's unwitting tips, over a two-month period 14 or 15 Palestinians
were wiped out. Word went out among the Palestinian groups that Radi was working
for Israeli intelligence and, fearing for his life, he took a trip to Baghdad
and presented his case to Abu Nidal himself. Abu Nidal believed his story that
he had been used--which he had--and put the word out that Radi was "clean." The
blame was placed on Yasser Arafat's group--Palestinian factions at that time
were warring among themselves.
"Radi went back to his drinking and womanizing, and the money he made selling
arms for Pearson all drained away. At the very vulnerable point, in 1978,
Pearson stepped in again and offered Radi a [pound sign]200,000 loan. This time,
Pearson made it quite clear to him that the money was coming from an Israeli
source. The desperate Radi accepted the loan and was recruited to work for an
antiterrorist group in Israel run by Rafi Eitan.
"The group's methods were rather unconventional, one could say heinous, but it
had operated successfully for years. An
example is the case of the "Palestinian" attack on the cruise ship
Achille
Lauro
in 1985. That was, in fact, an Israeli "black" propaganda operation to show what
a deadly, cutthroat bunch the Palestinians were.
"The operation worked like this:
Eitan
passed instructions to Radi
that it was time for the Palestinians to make an attack and do something cruel,
though no specifics were laid out.
Radi
passed orders on to Abu'l
Abbaas,
who, to follow such orders, was receiving millions from Israeli intelligence
officers posing as Sicilian dons.
Abbas
then gathered a team to attack the cruise ship. The team was told to make it
bad, to show the world what lay in store for other unsuspecting citizens if
Palestinian demands were not met. As the world knows, the group picked on an
elderly American Jewish man in a wheelchair, killed him, and threw his body
overboard. They made their point. But for Israel it was the best kind of
anti-Palestinian propaganda."

The Murder of 3,000 Argentina Jews and the silence of Israel's leaders

In Argentina between 1976 and 1983 3,000 of the Disappeared Ones were Jewish, 10% of those murdered by the fascists. Yet there was not one word of protest from Israel. Quite the contrary. It would seem that Israel was actually advising these torturers on 'counter-insurgency'.
‘they interviewed in Europe Mr. Peregrino Fernandez, a policeman who broke down and confessed that much of the atrocities committed by him and his cronies. Peregrino, during the lengthy confession, gave details of how Herzl Inbar, minister counselor of the Israeli Embassy in Argentina, gave "counterinsurgency instructions”.’

U.K. file on Entebbe contains claim that
Israel behind hijacking
By Haaretz
Service
Newly released British documents contain a claim by an unnamed contact that the
Shin Bet security service collaborated with the Popular Front for the Liberation
of Palestine to hijack the June 1976 flight from Israel that was diverted to
Entebbe, Uganda, the BBC reported Friday.
Israel's rescue of the dozens of hostages taken in the hijacking of the Air
France plane, popularly known as the Entebbe raid, is considered one of the most
daring and successful operations in Israeli history. Elite Israel Defense Forces
troops stormed the airport where the hostages, many of them Israeli, were held
and overpowered the hijackers and Ugandan soldiers.
Although the captors used the hijacking to demand the release of Palestinians or
Palestinian supporters, a British government file on the incident quotes the
unnamed source as telling a British diplomat in Paris that Israel was behind the
hijacking. The claim is not known to be backed up by corroborating evidence, and
the file does not make it clear whether the British government took the claim
seriously.
"The operation was designed to torpedo the PLO's standing in France and to
prevent what they see as a growing rapprochement between the PLO and the
Americans," the BBC report said British diplomat D.H. Colvin wrote in the
document, citing his source.
"My contact said the PFLP had attracted all sorts of wild elements, some of whom
had been planted by the Israelis," Colvin reportedly wrote. "According to his
information, the hijack was the work of the PFLP, with help from the Israeli
Secret Service, the Shin Beit."
The document was written on June 30, 1976, three days after the hijacking and
prior to the rescue operation.
1950 The Jews of Iraq, by Naeim Giladi, an Iraqi Jew who moved to Israel as a youth, shows how Zionists in 1950 killed Iraqi Jews with bombs to make them think anti-Semitism was endangering Jews in Iraq and that Jews could only be safe in Israel. [ http://www.bintjbeil.com/E/occupation/ameu_iraqjews.html ]
1947-50
Just after World War II many Jews were in Displaced Persons [DP] camps in Europe trying to make a new life for themselves somewhere where they could be safe. Conditions in the camps were so bad that survival itself was in question. Malnutrition and disease were severe, while shelter and heating in the winter were extremely inadequate. Making matters even worse for Jews was the fact that anti-Semitic German police raided the camps more and more frequently as local government was transferred by the Allies to Germans.
As late as 1948 there were "between 100,000 and 114,000 displaced Jews in the American Zone of Germany. From among that group, more than 55,000 applications for emigration to the United States had been filed by the fall of 1947; and a majority of these people specified a preference of going anywhere but Palestine." About this time, Rabbi Klausner, a U.S. Army rabbi, gave a report about the Jews in the DP camps to "the Zionist-controlled American Jewish Conference" in which he stated:
"I am convinced that the people must be forced to go to Palestine...By 'force' I suggest a program...The first step in such a program...is the adoption of the principle that it is the conviction of the world Jewish community that these people must go to Palestine...Those who are not interested are no longer to be wards of the Jewish community to be maintained in camps, fed and clothed without their having to make any contribution to their own subsistence. To effect this program, it becomes necessary for the Jewish community at large to reverse its policy and instead of creating comforts for the Displaced Persons to make them as uncomfortable as possible." [15]
In 1948 the Zionist military force, the Haganah, tried to recruit Jewish DPs to go to Palestine and fight Arabs. At first they tried a voluntary recruitment drive, which was a failure, in part because "[T]he elevated tensions in the Arab-Jewish conflict increased doubts about 'aliyah [immigration to Palestine], and as a result, more camp dwellers distanced themselves from the Zionist movement, and became reluctant to be drafted or immigrate to Palestine." Yehuda Ben-David, the Haganah deputy commander in Germany, reported back to his superiors that "the Jews of the camps" were, themselves, the problem: "Their acquaintance with Zionist values is limited and superficial." In Austria, the Zionist Gordonia-Young Maccabean youth movement was charged with recruiting for the Haganah and they reported, "the mobilization operation among camp Jews is unsuccessful...There are some volunteers among the Romanian refugees...but for Polish Jews there is hardly any hope. The corruption of these Jews is so great that they are totally uninterested in the people's campaign [in Palestine]. Recently, the JDC [American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee] began registering people who would like to go to America, and hundreds of camp Jews have registered." [16]
Next, the Haganah switched to a compulsory draft, which they were able to do because they had the backing of the Americans running the camps. In an operation that was "approved by Ben-Gurion" each camp's governing body (known by their Yiddish name as the Zentral Komitet ) "used all the power it had: Employees were fired, residents were evicted from their apartments, others were fined or denied the supplementary food rations that the JDC was distributing to all camp Jews; others were simply beaten up...Violent incidents were numerous. The archives are replete with hundreds of official documents describing brutal methods and actions carried out in an identical manner in a large number of camps in Germany and Austria, taking place mostly between March and August 1948...The archives also contain testimony about 'waves of Zionist harassment' in the camps..." The compulsory conscription was a success, because in the conflict between the Zionists and "thousands of Displaced Persons who make immigration plans to target countries other than Palestine" there "could only be one winner -- the side capable of using institutional violence." [17]
The Yiddish Bulletin on May 19, 1950 wrote:
"By pressing for an exodus of Jews from Europe; by insisting that Jewish D.P.s do not wish to go to any country outside of Israel; by not participating in the negotiations on behalf of the D.P.'s; and by refraining from a campaign of their own -- by all this they [the Zionists] certainly did not help to open the gates of America for Jews. In fact, they sacrificed the interests of living people -- their brothers and sisters who went through a world of pain -- to the politics of their own movement." [18]
1943
What did the Zionist leadership do to rescue Jews during the actual years of the Holocaust?
On December 11, 1943, the Jewish Forward, largest Yiddish newspaper in the world, criticized the Zionist leaders, writing,
"The Jewish Conference [a Zionist organization] is alive only when there is something in the air which has to do with a Commonwealth in Palestine, and it is asleep when it concerns rescue work for the Jews in the Diaspora." [19]
Baruch Kimmerling, in his review of Yosef Grodzinsky's In the Shadow of the Holocaust: The Struggle Between Jews and Zionists in the Aftermath of World War II, writes:
"Ben-Gurion and other Zionist leaders vetoed the immigration of 1,000 orphans, who were in physical and emotional danger as a result of the harsh winter of 1945, from the camps in Germany to England, where the Jewish community had managed to secure them permits. Another group of roughly 500 children of camp inhabitants was barred, after Zionist intervention, from reaching France, whose rabbinical institutions had offered them safe haven." [20]
The head of the World Zionist Organization's Zionist Rescue Committee in Budapest during the war, Rudolf Kastner, later a prominent member of Israel's government under Prime Minister Ben-Gurion, collaborated with the Nazis. In the years 1944-45, Kastner was made a V.I.P. by the Nazis and not required to wear a yellow Star of David because, in exchange for being allowed to hand pick 1600 prominent Jews, including his own relatives and friends, to emigrate to Palestine, he helped Adolf Eichmann lure a half million Hungarian and Transylvanian Jews to their death without a fight by arranging for phony postcards "from other Jews" to convince them that the trains to the death camps were merely taking them to be "resettled." The betrayal was especially horrible because Eichmann only had "150 men and only a few thousand Hungarian soldiers at his disposal" and the Jews, had they known the truth, could have easily carried out a mass escape to territory that the Nazis did not occupy. These facts came out in a famous 1954 Israeli libel trial in which Kastner initially thought he could silence his accuser but, as the trial developed and witness after witness came forward to confirm the accusations, he began to shift his defense to the claim that he had only done what all top Zionist leaders of the time advocated. At this point Kastner was "conveniently" assassinated by persons unknown. [21]

]
Zionist sabotage of rescue efforts was
an established policy as early as 1942. In a letter to the Times (of London),
June 6, 1961, Rabbi Dr. Solomon
Schonfeld, Chairman of the
wartime Rescue Committee established by the Chief Rabbi of Britain, describes
how the Zionist leadership in Great Britain opposed efforts to rescue European
Jews from the Holocaust. He writes that, contrary to the claims that the
British government was "largely indifferent to and unwilling to take action in
defense of the European Jews who were being massacred daily by the Nazis in
spite of efforts by Zionist leaders to persuade the British Foreign Office to
rouse itself into action on behalf of the victims...My experience in 1942-43 was
wholly in favour of British readiness to help, openly, constructively and
totally, and that this readiness met with opposition from Zionist leaders who
insisted on rescue to Palestine as the only acceptable form of help." Rabbi
Schonfeld goes on to describe how, in December, 1942, he and others formed a
Council for Rescue from the Nazi Terror which initiated a Parliamentary Rescue
Committee supported by leading members of both Houses, and how
they submitted a motion to Parliament
calling for the government "to declare its readiness to find temporary refuge in
its own territories or in territories under its control for endangered persons
who are able to leave those countries; to appeal to the governments of
countries bordering on enemy and enemy-occupied countries to allow temporary
asylum and transit facilities for such persons; to offer to those governments,
so far as practicable, such help as may be needed to facilitate their
cooperation; and to invite the other Allied governments to consider similar
action." But this is what happened,
according to the rabbi's letter:
"As a result of widespread concern and the persistence of a few, this motion
achieved within two weeks a total of 277 Parliamentary signatures of all
parties. This purely humanitarian proposal met with sympathy from government
circles, and I should add that H.M.Government did, in fact, issue some hundreds
of Mauritius and other immigration permits -- indeed, in favour of any
threatened Jewish family whom we could name.
Already while the Parliamentary motion
was gathering momentum, voices of dissent were heard from Zionist quarters:
'Why not Palestine?' The obvious answers that the most urgent concern was
humanitarian and not political, that the Mufti-Nazi alliance ruled out Palestine
for the immediate saving of lives and that Britain could not then add to her
Middle East problems, were of no avail.
"At the Parliamentary meeting held on January 27, 1943, when the next steps were
being energetically pursued by over 100 M.P.s and Lords, a spokesman for the
Zionists announced that the Jews would oppose the motion on the grounds of its
omitting to refer to Palestine. Some voices were raised in support of the
Zionist view, there was considerable debate, and thereafter the motion was dead.
Even the promoters exclaimed in desperation: If the Jews cannot agree among
themselves, how can we help? It was useless to argue with a then current Zionist
argument: 'Every nation has had its dead in the fight for its homeland -- the
sufferers under Hitler are our dead in our fight'."
Why did Zionist leaders sabotage rescue efforts? The answer is spelled out very
clearly in a dramatic letter. In the autumn of 1942 Nathan Schwalb (Dror) was
representative of the Zionist He-Halutz (The Pioneer) organization in Geneva. At
this time a Jewish rescue Working Group in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, was
sending desperate appeals to He-Halutz for money to bribe senior Nazi officials
to delay or prevent the transport of Czechoslovakian Jewry to Auschwitz and
other death camps. Schwalb replied, in his letter to the rescue group, as
follows:
"Since we have the opportunity of this courier, we are writing to the group that
they must always remember that matter which is the most important, which is the
main issue that must always be before our eyes. After all, the allies will be
victorious. After the victory, they will once again divide up the world between
the nations as they did at the end of first war. Then they opened the way for us
for the first step [the British Balfour Declaration of 1917 supporting a Jewish
homeland in Palestine -- JS] and now, as the war ends, we must do everything so
that Eretz Yisroel [the Land of Israel -- JS] should become a Jewish state.
Important steps have already been taken in this matter. As to the cry that comes
from your country, we must be aware that all the nations of the Allies are
spilling much blood and if we do not bring sacrifices, with what will we achieve
the right to sit at the table when they make the distribution of nations and
territories after the war? And so it would be foolish and impertinent on our
side to ask the nations whose blood is being spilled for permission to send
money into the land of their enemies in order to protect our own blood. Because
'rak b'dam tihyu lanu haaretz' ('only
through blood will the land be ours'). As to yourselves -- members of the
group -- 'atem taylu' ('you will get out'), and for this purpose we are
providing you with funds by this courier." [22]
One might dismiss this cruel letter from Nathan Schwalb as an aberration,
unrepresentative of the Zionist leadership at higher levels. But it turns out
that Schwalb was acting in accordance with the views of his superiors in the
Zionist movement. In his book, In Days of Holocaust and Destruction, Yitzchak
Greenbaum, Chairman of the (Zionist) Jewish Agency's Rescue Committee in
Jerusalem, wrote, "when they asked me, couldn't you give money out of the United
Jewish Appeal funds for the rescue of Jews in Europe, I said, 'NO!' and I say
again, 'NO!'...one should resist this wave which pushes the Zionist activities
to secondary importance." In February, 1943, Greenbaum gave a speech in Tel Aviv
on the subject, "The Diaspora and the Redemption" in which he said:
"When they come to us with two plans --
the rescue of the masses of Jews in Europe or the redemption of the land
[settling Jews in Palestine -- JS] -- I vote, without a second thought, for the
redemption of the land...If there would be a possibility today of buying
packages of food with the money of the
Keren
Hayesod
(United Jewish Appeal) to send it through Lisbon, would we do such a thing? No!
and once again No!" [23]
1938
Zionism's hostility to Jews trying to survive anywhere other than Palestine goes
back at least to 1938 when, at a meeting of Labor Zionists in Great Britain,
David Ben-Gurion, argued: "If I knew
that it would be possible to save all the children in Germany by bringing them
over to England and only half of them by transporting them to
Eretz
Israel, then I opt for the second alternative. For we must take into account not
only the lives of these children but also the history of the people of Israel."
[26] These are the words of a fanatic, obsessed with the dream of
becoming a ruler of a "state of his own" no matter how many innocent Jewish
lives must be sacrificed for that end.

Zionist leaders want Jews to believe that the only explanation for why people
kill Jews is irrational anti-Semitism. In 1648 peasants in what is now Ukraine
rose up against the terrible oppression of their virtual slavery. Their
oppressors were the Polish nobility allied with the Catholic Church, and also
wealthy Jews who rented vast tracts of land from the nobility and, with the
authority of a master over his slaves, brutally exploited the peasants. Ordinary
Jews were not peasants but lived in towns working directly or indirectly in the
service of the wealthy Jews. Even the poorest Jews were much better off than the
peasants, and Jewish leaders inculcated contempt for peasants among Jews. When
the peasants revolted, they killed those they perceived as responsible for their
oppression.

Kriwaczek, who was born in Vienna in 1937 and, with his parents, narrowly
escaped the Nazis in 1939, the author writes:
"It is not to diminish the Yiddish people's afflictions to note, as reported
in these same grisly accounts, that the
worst cruelties were practised on Polish noblemen and Catholic priests:
'The Jews were led to the cemetery...They entered the cemetery chapel and were
killed there. Afterwards the building was set on fire...The Catholic
priests...were skinned alive while the dukes who had been buried for a long time
were dug up from their graves and tossed aside'; that it was Polish nobles and
priests who provided the greater number of victims: 'In the city of Mogila they
slaughtered 800 nobles together with their wives and children as well as 700
Jews, also with wives and children…'"
But Zionist leaders hide the full story
from Jews to make it seem as if the peasants killed only Jews, and were
motivated by irrational anti-Semitism having nothing to do with anger at
oppression. Thus Rabbi Ken Spiro, a licensed tour guide from the Israel
Ministry of Tourism who has appeared on radio and television programs such as
B.B.C., the National Geographic Channel and the History Channel, describes the
event in his online "The Jews of Poland: Crash Course in Jewish History #49" by
writing:
“This second rebellion, in 1648, which succeeded in freeing a large part of
the Ukraine from Polish rule, was led by a Ukrainian Cossack named Bogdan
Chmielnicki. In large measure it was directed at the Jews. Chmielnicki was one
of the biggest anti-Semites in human history, on par with Hitler. His aim was
genocide and his forces murdered an estimated 100,000 Jews in the most
horrendous ways: [Here Rabbi Spiro cites descriptions of the brutality of
the killing]… It's no wonder when Jews hear the word Cossack they break out
in a sweat. These people killed 100,000 Jews and destroyed 300 Jewish
communities in the most brutal way one could imagine. Yet to this day
Chmielnicki is considered a nationalist hero in the Ukraine, where they regard
him as a kind of "George Washington." In Kiev there is a big statue in the
square erected in his honor.”
